Safer Internet Day
Every year, thousands of schools, youth groups, companies, charities, police services and other organisations across the globe work together to help to inspire a better, safer Internet for all. On the first Tuesday of February each year, they all promote Safer Internet Day (SID). Each year there is a different theme and focus for the variety of activities and projects that are undertaken.
This school year, Safer Internet Day was on Tuesday 6th February 2024.
The theme for the Safer Internet Day 2024 was:
Inspiring change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online.
Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year we cover an online issue or theme that speaks to the things young people are seeing and experiencing online. Created in consultation with young people across the UK, this year Safer Internet Day focused on change online, this includes covering:
- Young people’s perspective on new and emerging technology
- Using the internet to make change for the better
- The changes young people want to see online
- The things that can influence and change the way young people think, feel and act online and offline
- Looking at the current big 'change' online - AI (Artificial Intelligence)
During the week when SID falls, all classes in the school used their timetabled Computing slot to work on an activity linked to the theme. We had a special SID Assembly on the 7th February 2024 to introduce this year's theme to the children.
These sessions are additional to the Online Safety teaching that is completed at the beginning of every half term as part of our Computing Curriculum.
