Curriculum Intent

St Paul's School’s intention with regard to the curriculum, we will:

Ensure we articulate our school vision in all we do; Inspiring Learning, Nurturing Wholeness

Provide a breadth of learning:  to include pupil’s acquisition of knowledge, understanding, concepts, skills and attitudes.  We aim to help them to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, spiritually and aesthetically, so that pupils may become confident and considerate members of the community.

Provide a balance: to give each element and aspect an appropriate portion of the whole curriculum

Provide coherence and clarity: to ensure that each child's education has continuity and progression, and each lesson enables clarity of understanding.

Provide relevance and adaptation:  to make the curriculum fit for the 21^st century. We will make cross curricular links by linking subjects when appropriate and ensure that the curriculum is diverse and inclusive of race and gender. We also ensure it is suitably differentiated so it is accessible for all

Provide excitement and enjoyment: to create and maintain an exciting and stimulating learning environment. We aim to facilitate opportunities for children to be curious and for their learning to be inspiring and at all times meeting need and enabling progression.

Safeguarding: to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills, self-confidence and awareness which will enable them to safeguard themselves and others.

Curriculum Implementation: National Curriculum

St Paul’s curriculum will follow the requirements of the National Curriculum and incorporate these within learning.

Whilst some subjects will be taught discretely, others will show thematic cross curricular links. Our provision embraces cross-curricular planning when we know that it will enhance the opportunities for teaching and learning.

We aim to foster and develop positive attitudes to learning. We also encourage our pupils to apply behaviours which make them effective learners. Our Christian values further enhance this approach.

We are committed to providing a wide range of opportunities both in and outside the classroom. We value Music, Drama, Sport, The Arts, The Outside Environment and Technological Opportunities. We have a daily Act of Worship, some of which is whole school and some age specific. Our worship reflects the Anglican tradition of the school but also aims to be inclusive for all pupils.

Curriculum Impact:

Children have enjoyed a rich learning experience and can articulate what they have learnt and to see connections within their learning.

Children can speak confidently about both the skills and the knowledge that they have developed.

Teachers use formative assessment to help set next steps in learning for pupils. Pupils are part of this process.

Summative assessments are used by teachers to review learning and to help set targets.

The progress of all pupils is tracked throughout the year.

The Foundation Stage Profile, end of KS1 and KS2 teacher and external assessments, Phonics screening (Year 1 and re-test where necessary in Year 2) and Year 4 multiplication tables check are also used to inform the school and parents of progress.

Parents are regularly informed of progress through parents’ evenings and end of year reports.
